INFERTILIY
Infertility is a major issue which were faced by millions of people in worldwide, but this is the topic which might be too difficult for many to discuss. Infertility is defined as a couple has inability to conceive after 12months which is 1year of regular, unprotected intercourse, infertility is not only a biological challenge were it also has emotional, social and psychological dimensions. This blog shows that science behind infertility, its cause and the treatments.
What causes infertility?
It’s a major factor which affects any gender and often due to factors which is categorized into,
· Female Factor
· Male Factor
· Unexplained Factor
FEMALE FACTOR:
In female reproductive system, infertility may be caused by:
· Tubal disorders such as blocked fallopian tubes, which are caused by untreated STI’s (Sexually Transmitted Disease) or complications of unsafe abortion or abdominal surgery.
· Uterine disorders which could be endometriosis, congenital in nature (septate uterus), fibroids.
· Disorders of ovaries, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and other follicular disorders.
· Disorders in endocrine system causing imbalance in reproductive glands.
MALE FACTOR:
In male reproductive system, infertility may be caused by:
· Obstruction in reproductive tract causing dysfunctionalities in ejection of semen. This blockage can occur in tubes (ejaculatory ducts and seminal vesicles). Common cause of blockage is due to injuries or infection in genital tract.
· Hormonal disorder leading to abnormalities in hormones produced by pituitary gland, hypothalamus and testicles-hormone such as testosterone regulate the production of sperm cells.
· Testicular failure to produce sperm are also a major reason for infertility, for example varicoceles or medical treatments that impair sperm-producing cells.
· The quality of sperm and its function also plays major role in part of infertility, were motility and morphology is a major factor in a sperm.
UNEXPLAINED INFERTILITY:
Up to 30% of cases have no identifiable cause despite thorough testing. This underscores complexity of human reproduction.
DIAGNOSIS:
A through diagnosis involves both partners and which may include:
· Blood test: To check the hormone levels.
· Ultrasound: To assess ovarian and uterine health.
· Semen analysis: to evaluate the quality of semen (sperm health).
· Hysterosalpingography (HSG): To examine fallopian tube pathway.
· Laparoscopy: for a look of pelvic issues like endometriosis and fibroids.
TREATMENTS:
The field of reproductive medicine has few major techniques in ART.
ART: Assisted Reproductive Technologies.
1. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): Semen sample is processed, and the highly motile sperms are separated from the debris and inseminated directly into the uterus of a patient with the help of catheter in a sterile way. This helps in chances of fertilization.
2. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): Oocytes are retrieved from the ovary after the stimulation of follicle and fertilized in a petri dish by adding processed semen(sperm) in sterile way after fertilization the embryos were cultured. Later the embryos were transferred and implanted in uterus of patient.
3. Intra Cytoplasmic Insemination (ICSI): It is an advanced way of IVF where the sperm is manually selected and injected into oocyte and fertilized oocyte is cultured as embryo. Later the embryos were transferred and implanted in uterus of patient.
Cryopreservation: it’s the technique for freezing the semen, oocytes, embryos at low temperature for preservation.
Breaking The Stigma:
Infertility is a medical condition, not a personal failure. raising and promoting awareness and an open dialogue conversation can help to break myths and encourage individuals to have help.
CONCLUSION:
Infertility is a difficult and very personal experience. While the journey to parenting might be difficult, improvements in medical science provide hope for many. Individuals and couples can make informed decisions and find support in their journey to starting a family by learning about the causes, researching treatment options, and treating the emotional elements.
